the safety problem of adding magnesium to molten steel in vacuum induction melting furnace

Time:2021-03-10   Nums:3021

There are several measures to safely add magnesium to molten steel in vacuum induction melting furnace.

1. Using Ni mg master alloy instead of metal magnesium

In order to solve the problem of adding magnesium to molten steel safely, the adding form of magnesium must be changed. In view of the characteristics of magnesium, such as low melting point, low density, high vapor pressure and active chemical properties, the method of increasing melting point and density, reducing vapor pressure and chemical activity is adopted to solve the problem of safe magnesium addition. Therefore, through the experimental study, adding magnesium to the molten steel in the form of Ni mg master alloy can achieve the above purpose and realize the safe addition of magnesium.

2. Argon filling in the induction furnace is used to restrain the mass fraction of magnesium from 10% to 20%, and part of magnesium evaporation loss still occurs at high temperature. In order to reduce the evaporation of magnesium, neutral gas with a certain pressure can be filled into the smelting space to restrain the evaporation loss of magnesium.

Therefore, by using master alloy containing magnesium and adding magnesium in neutral gas, the problem of adding magnesium safely is solved. The next problem is how to accurately control the magnesium content in the alloy.
